Since when I have an Edox???

Edox Delfin

Edox was found in 1884 by Christian Rüfli-Flury, an exceptionally gifted watchmaker. Since then, Edox Watches has produced leading-technology high-precision timepieces with passion, ingenuity and a meticulous attention to details, enabling Edox to become over time a leader in precision sports watches on sea and land.

In 1961, Edox became the benchmark brand for water-resistance with the launch of its Delfin model, a revolutionary timepiece that was water-resistant to 200 meters due to its sturdy, protective gaskets, double case-back and a special shockproof design. The Delfin set a new standard for shock protection and water resistance.

The word Delfin means dolphin. This name originates from both Greek and Polish languages.

This is an old advertisement on Edox Delfin.... yeah claiming to be the water champion......

See what I found in my dungeon..... a Dolphin, the Edox Delfin Automatic date with silver glazed dial, applied markers with luminous inlays. I love anything with red second hand.... It just gives the sporty racing impulses.....

This watch comes in very nicely engineered stainless steel case of 36mm x 40.4mm. Like most watches from the 1960's and 70's era, it has a acrylic crystal. Originally Edox Delphi has a signed crown with an Edox logo. Mine is a replacement generic crown with around the same size. I am going to look for an original crown to replace it.....

The main selling point for this Edox Delphi during its time was its capability of waterproofing to 20atm,

The backcase is screw in type with a Dolphin engraving at the center.

What impressed me is the protective anti-dust cap inside.....

The rotor is signed Edox, Swiss Made, and 17 Jewels, This is actually ETA 2783 calibre that beated at 21,600 Ah and has a power reserve of 45 hours. The date on this watch can be quickset.

It is as classic as Disney Bambi... but is an Orient Bambino

Orient Classic Automatic Bambino ER2400AW

Last Sunday evening, after a heavy dinner, decided to wondering around Delta Mall, Sibu. A good friend has just recently opened a watches retail and services outlet inside the up-scaled shopping mall.

Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introducing Perfect Time...... I would say it is among the leading watch retailers in town. Perfect Time is the authorised dealer for famous brand names like Tissot, Epos, Seiko, Alba, Orient, Casio, Vostok, O.T.S, Suunto, Seastar, and yes my favourite Titoni. Apart from the above, the shop also dealing with heavy weighted brands like Rado, Omega, Rolex, Longines, IWC, Panerai and etc.

I went there just for a walk without my camera and my handphone, therefore didn't take any photo of the shop as most bloggers would do. The photo that I posted here is from Perfect Time's facebook. You can go and like their facebook and from time to time, there will be some attractive offers. I think they are also offering online services too.

Well back to the story about Bambi...... naaaaaah Bambino..... I was browsing through windows and cabinets of watches display before set my eyes on this one at the Orient cabinet.

Hidden at one corner of the cabinet, away from the mighty rays of Orient Stars..... Four nonidentical  quartets differentiate only by their appearance of their dials and bracelet material..... these very fine looking ordinary Orients are from the newly launched Orient Bambino series.

The Bambino is Orient's Classic Automatic series. They are the fusion between timeless classic appearance and the state-of-the-art mechanism precision..... The marriage of two key successful ingredients making these watches irresistible.

It is relatively difficult to choose among the four..... All with its own characteristics.... After much struggling, I finally settled for this one, ER2400AW.....

This is a 40.5mm round stainless steel case watch with antique-looking stainless steel mesh bracelet. The convex crystal glass and the protruding retro styling crown give the watch a distinctive image.

Another attraction is the dauphine blue coloured hands that make time telling an effortless act. The beautiful silver Roman markers really stand out from the white dial.

The Bambino has screw in beveled caseback with Orient logo. If open the case, you will see the Orient self-winding 48743 calibre. This Orient in-house 21 jewels movement does not hack and cannot be handwinded. It is beating at 21,600 A/h and has a 40 hours power reserve. This series of watches are water resist to 30 meters.

The clasp of the meshed bracelet is engraved with the word Orient..... The only disappointment is that the crown is unsigned.

The Bambino is a true reflection of the heritage and excellent watch making....

Another Tissot PR 516 Mechanical

Tissot PR516 Date

I blogged about Tissot PR516 back in May this year (Here!). Just notice I have another piece laying somewhere else.

This one is with the date version. This PR516 is set in the stainless steel case of 34mm without the crown and a plastic lens.

What I admire about this watch is the big crown which comes very handy when winding the watch and adjusting the time.

The back case is also very special and beautiful....

This is a handwinding mechanical watch using the 17 jewels 782-1 movement. This caliber beats at the amplitude of 18,000 bph and has a power reserve of 49 hours.

Tissot watches no matter past or present are always values for money. They are highly reliable and affordable. You won't be too wrong to buy a new or a vintage Tissot watch........

This Lion is not that Lion:: Seiko 5 Superior Titanium

Seiko 5 Superior Titanium 7S36-0140

Most branded Titanium watches are relatively expensive. This is probably the cheapest around.  Yeap is a Seiko 5 alright, the entry level of Seiko mechanical watches.

The Superior line is different from the regular 5 series by having a sapphire crystal and a solid link bracelet. It uses the 23jewels 7S36 movement. I picked this one up from ebay Philippines.

This is a two tones Titanium and gold watch. The case diameter is 36mm without the crown. Because the whole watch case is mainly titanium, this watch is very light in weight. This watch has a very attractive black honeycomb dial beautified by the gold coloured Seiko 5 logo and markers and gold coloured hands.

Like most Seiko 5 this watch has the day and date function at 3 O'clock position and is highlighted with gold frame. This watch comes with its original two tones bracelet with the clasp signed Seiko.

What prompted me to collect this watch is the backcase..... It has a Seiko 5 Superior lion logo. What I am referring at the title is the comparison between this Seiko 5 Superior Lion with the more majestic looking Grand Seiko Lion....... The back case is screwed in and the watch is water resist to 50 Meters.

This Seiko 5 is manufactured in Japan. I don't really consider this as a vintage watch. Despite its age, it is still very practical in design by modern standard.

Orient 60th Anniversary... Let's start with silver medalist....

Orient celebrated its 60th Anniversary on 13th July 2010 and a “60th Anniversary” limited edition watch was released to commemorate the event. The limited edition time piece comes in two variants, one with stainless steel case and another one with a gold (4 microns) plated case. Both the silver and the gold is limited to 1500 pieces worldwide (with 300 pieces each for Japan Domestic Market).
It was relatively easy to grab the gold version.  I managed to secure two gold variant from two local Orient Authorised dealers. The silver version was a headache or it was too highly sought after. It sounded like the stainless steel version was never allocated to the local market and its surrounding region. I needed to resolve into ebaying it from the United States.
It arrived after a week through USPS priority mailing service. The watch comes in a grey coloured cardboard outer box. There is silver printing of Orient 60th Anniversary on the outer box. After the outer box is an impressive solid wooden box. The same wordings of Orient 60th Anniversary was engraved onto the wooden box. The wooden box has a high class feel, black velvet interior.

The box interior also stated Orient 60th Anniversary and with an extra line stating 1950-2010.

The watch outlook is based on the 1950′s retro-vintage. It is simple, yet elegant and is timeless classic. The keyword for this watch is simplicity..... The snow white dial coupled with polished silver hands and indexes, encased with a domed crystal.... A lot of forums or watch enthusiasts think that the power reserve is a merit for the watch, I think otherwise. Personally I would love it to be plain. For me, this is a commemorative or souvenir timepiece, you don't really need extra feature to promote its sale.

This watch has a diameter of 39mm not including the big crown.

The crown is signed with Orient. The large crown made winding the watch very effortlessly. The width between the lugs is 20mm.

The watch comes with a snap-on caseback that is inscribed with “Orient 60th Anniversary Limited Edition 1950 – 2010″. The back case also proudly proclaim this as a Made in Japan. There is also serial number engraved at the case back. This watch of mine is 0363/1500. This watch is water resist to 30M only. Who in the right mind, will go swimming with a classic watch equipped with leather strap.

The leather strap is of shinny crocodile finish and marked Orient on the inside. I have no ideal what QUDEAR means thou.

The leather strap comes with a stainless steel buckle signed with Orient. Perhaps a 60th would be a better choice.

This watch used the 21 jewels caliber 48N40 Orient in house hand wound movement with hacking feature. The movement beats at 21,600bph. Caliber 48N40 has an accuracy of +25 to -15 seconds daily and a power reserve of 40 hours.
Below is some shots of the same watch.... some using a whitebox, others just ordinary shots........ I still have a long way to learn in taking more proper photos.....
