VVVIP's gift watch

TYT's Souvenir Watch

VVVIP? Very very very IMPORTANT person..... You need to be a prominent distinguished person before being awarded this watch. Does that mean I am an aristocrat or bureaucrat? Nah, certainly not.... I just an average civilian who has a profound love for watches.....

TYT stands for Tuan Yang Terutama which literally mean "The Most Eminent Master". He is the Sarawak state figurehead. Sarawak is the largest state in Malaysia. It is also known as Bumi Kenyalang ("Land of the Hornbills"), Below is the Sarawak flag.

Current TYT is Tun Datuk Patinggi Abang Haji Muhammad Salahuddin bin Abang Barieng. His Excellency gave me this watch during a private function.

This watch is produced by Seastar brand. It used the very reliable Citizen Miyolta quartz movement 2115. 2115 is a 3 hands with date function at 3 o'clock Japanese movement. The watch has a stainless steel oyster casing. I notice the watch bracelet is a replicate of old titoni Cosmo King design and it has a very good thick gold plating. The watch is water resistant to 3 ATM. It has a mineral crystal.

What makes this watch so special is the dial. The dial is a beautiful silver coloured with no indication of brand. There is only the Sarawak State Crest on the top part of the dial and Salahuddin's signature at the botton half. The beautiful synthetic diamonds indices give this watch a sense of high end. In all, this is a cheap reliable watch that is unavailable on any market. The exclusiveness of the watch, make it highly valuable as a souvenir. "Privileges sought by many yet enjoyed by only a discerning few."

Below is the Miyolta 2115 movement pictures...

The bracelet and the rear case is all marked with Seastar brand.

Finish this post with the night view of the Official Residence for Tuan Yang Terutama, The Astana, Kuching.

  1. I have followed your post for two years and I like how you taken the time and patience to find the piece you want and state the details that you like about it. It is inspirational from another watch collector to another watch collector.

    Thank you,
    Penang Collector

    1. Eric,

Thanks for the vote of confidence. In time, I question myself whether anyone read the junk that I wrote... My English is somewhat broken and my photographic skills, at best is amateur standard. Your kind feedback has shed some light on my self doubt... It has been a steroid boost for me. Thank you.
