This is a duo tones (Stainless Steel with 18k Gold) Rolex datejust. 16233 succeed the ultra popular quick-set date 16013. The only noticeable difference between 16013 and 16233 is the crystal, the later used sapphire glass. The automatic movement also changed from the 27 jewels 3035 to the 31 jewels 3135. Both movements are chronometer certified.
16233 has a long production span that begins in 1987 till late 2005. It is replaced by 116233. I personally think 16233 is still a more friendlier watch to wear comparing to the latest model. The earlier batch of 16233 comes with lug-holes. Sometimes in 1993, Rolex decided to changed all their models casing to without lug holes.
I bought this from a friend's shop late last year. What is so special about this watch is because of the dial. This is with the white Mother of Pearl and with factory setting 10 genuine diamonds. This watch comes complete with the box and papers with even the original price tag and the rolex seal. The only fault with this watch initially is the reconditioned jubilee bracelet. It is not as comfortable to wear as in its original state. My friend is gracious enough to replace me with another bracelet.
