What is on my wrist today ?
Today, I am wearing a rare classic Rolex Oyster Datejust 16014.
16014 is the Stainless Steel Oyster Perpetual Datejust Model. Most 16014 have the 18K solid white gold fluted bezel. This one is a rarer form with the stainless steel engine turned bezel. What make it even unique is this one comes with a champagne dial with a matching day disk.
This watch has an acrylic crystal. The champagne dial has raised gold baton markers with a lumed dot at the bottom. The hands are gold in colour as well.
The stainless steel case is 36mm in diameter excluding the crown. The case has holes at the lugs.
The crown is a screw in Twinlock winding crown, ensuring that this precious timepiece remains pressure-proof to a warranted depth of 330 feet or 100 meters.
This watch comes with Rolex Jubilee band which are very very comfortable to wear. The clasp is signed with the Rolex crown.
Rolex usually has plain and unsigned backcase. The case of Rolex can only be open and close using Rolex opener.
Rolex 16014 was introduced to replace the 1601 model. It was launched in 1977 with the birth of Rolex 3035 movement. 3035 movement is a replacement for Rolex caliber 1575.
Cal. 3035 is a 27 Jewels automatic movement and is beating at 28,800 bph. It has hack set function and a quickset date which is absent in the older 1575 movement. Although caliber 3035 was a strong, reliable and very accurate movement, it was only in use for 11 years before being replaced with cal. 3135. 16014 production came to an end in 1988 with the introduction of sapphire crystal and the 31 Jewels cal.3135 movement in newer 16234 models.
Personally, I think this is the most gorgeous looking Rolex in my collection. The pictures tell it all.....
After so many years, it is still operate very reliably and robustly. With a little bit of polishing and servicing, it is still as good as ever and may I say worthy of show room.
This my friends is the quality of vintage Rolex......
Like this one, I now want to buy a Wristwatch, rolex liked, but I do not know that a good pick , you help to the point.
