What I have here is a vintage gold plated Titoni Cosmo King with solid 14K gold rim. Did I just say 14K Solid Gold???? I have posted numerous 14K Rim Cosmo King, until one day a friend asked me what does 14K Solid Gold mean.......

Woooooo that much of Gold Bullion.... man I am RICH!!!.... yeap in my dream only..... The gold marks such as 9k, 10k, 14k, 16k, 18k, 22k and 24k, all tell you what percentage of gold is contained in the piece.

9k or 9 karat gold contains 38% gold
10k or 10 karat gold contains 42% gold
12k or 12 karat gold contains 50% gold
14k or 14 karat gold contains 58% gold
16k or 16 karat gold contains 67% gold
18k or 18 karat gold contains 75% gold
22k or 22 karat gold contains 92% gold
24k or 24 karat gold is 100% pure gold.

Therefore solid 14k gold that does not mean it is of pure gold. The 14k piece contains 58.3% gold and the rest of the metal in the piece is different metal like copper, silver, nickel, etc. A small amount of zinc (0.2%) may be added to harden the alloy. Pure 24K gold is very soft and will wear off quickly.

The case of this watch is 18K gold plated. Vintage Titoni Cosmo King is 20 Microns gold plated. 1 micron is 1 millionth of an inch. Normal electroplate jewellery puts a layer of between 1 to 20 microns of gold on a base metal article usually steel or copper. Depending how thick the plating is, it will determine how long a piece will retain its shine. 20 microns is very good and used on watch cases with a 20 year wear guarantee. This watch is way beyond 20 years.... with a good polish, it still shine......

However the plating may wear, depending on what it is subjected to. Certain skin types are more acidic and can affect it more quickly. Those who perspires heavily may not be suitable for this type of electroplated watches. 

That is still the original gold crown...... The silver dial still in extremely good condition and the A.Schild movement still going strong..... That my friends is the testimonial to the durability and reliability of a Titoni Cosmo King........
